The
Attila & Dave Project - Lifeline
Attacking
their psychedelic rock canvas with the reckless abandon of a Berkeley
freshman mowing through a six pack on a Thursday night, Attila &
Dave Project load up their recordings with the pleasing aromas of
synthesizers, piano, guitars, and a variety of percussion. That
might not sound original but in fact, Lifeline is one of the better
DYI releases I've heard in a while. (but then again I still thirst
for the Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd sound) Theirs is a distinctive
yet intangible song quality deemed typical of good California green
grass rockers. The band effectively reincarnates the early 70s with
lyrics like "Small little hands of a little child reach in
the darkness and wait for a while" on the song 'Moonlight'
and "From under the bed and into the air, Lost in the silence
it drifts everywhere". Attilia Medveczky (vocals, keyboards),
Dave Stevenson (guitars) and Rusty Aceves (drums) have opened for
Steppenwolf and The Bay City Rollers at shows in and around the
Bay area. When not playing with the band or freelancing, Attila
plays with the Diablo Valley Symphony and maintains a teaching practice
for guitar, bass and piano. Rusty has been active in the Bay Area
music scene for nearly twelve years as a freelance jazz drummer,
symphonic percussionist and experimental/electronic musician and
composer. Meanwhile, Dave works as a solo classical guitarist, freelance
electric and acoustic guitarist, piano tuner and guitar and piano
teacher outside of the band and was a founder of the legendary Sacramento
band Scrub. Filled with a sense of rejuvenation, exulting at a new
birth of freedom of mind and body, the group feels like they have
rediscovered the laws and rhythms of a primitive age while speaking
the original language of a innocent world. "Having been raised
on television, the group cites the Monkees as their earliest influence"
says their biography. "Since then, everything from rock to
jazz to classical music has congealed in their collective consciousness,
allowing them to create songs and pieces at once powerful as well
as tasty". Now new themes - the beauty of an unspoilt world
in which the human being is the ruler and where his body is innocent
and beautiful - make their way into Attila & Dave's songs.
